    Re: Welcome

I am lucky to live in Wilson, NC.  We have several great que places w/i a stones throw of each other....my favorite place is Parkers. And is is mainly b/c of their slaw...I like the tangy mustard flavor it has.  The bbq and stuff are very similar to Bills in my mind's eye, but of course, none of them are as good as what I can put out on my pit!!!!Big Smile [:D]Wink [;)]

    Re: Welcome

Wilber's in Goldsboro without a doubt, with Clyde Cooper's in Raleigh running a close second.

    Re: Welcome

Without question, Wilbers in Goldsboro is the best. I would add B's in Greenville as 2nd best. BTW, when Ed Mitchell got in trouble, he said he was going to open another place in Wilson, after he got everything settled. Does anyone know anything about his plans?

    Thanks.

    Re: Welcome

I  haven't heard anything on Mitchell's as of late.  But I did have some of Bill's out of Wilson last night.. Not too bad.  Good, quick service.

    Re: Welcome

"The Pit Authentic Barbecue" in Raleigh is Mitchell's latest entry into the world of NC BBQ.

Really up-scale joint!  I couldn't believe the wine selection he has behind a glass wall.  Linen tableclothes and knapkins!  It aint your typical Q-joint!!!

I found the "Chopped Whole Hog" was a wee bit dry and chewy, but it tasted really good.  The flavor was slightly smoky with a good "Eastern" vinegar twang and a little heat.  The Cole-slaw was too chunky without much dressing, but it tasted pretty good.  I got the Mac&cheese as another side and that was really good and cheesy!  The hushpuppies were just 'okay', but they had 'grilled brussel sprouts' that were VERY tasty!  Cost was a bit high at $8.00 plus tax and tip and tea, but I'll get back there again sometime.

    Re: Welcome

My personal favorite Q-joints in NC are:

Eastern Style:  Skippers Forsyth's in Henderson and Grandpa's Kitchen in Littleton (Smithfield's Chicken & Barbecue is really good for a chain).

Lexington Style:  Country Bar-B-Que in High Point, BBQ Joe's Country Cooking in High Point, Hill's Lexington Barbecue in Winston-Salem, and Tipton's Bar-B-Que in Wilkesboro.

I've eaten and reviewed the BBQ at over 275 Q-joints in North Carolina so far, and know that I have about that many more to visit.  If ever anyone wants to know how I rated/reviewed any particular place PLEASE ask and I will share my experiences.  If I haven't been there I will attempt to go and let you know my opinion.

    Re: Welcome

I am blessed to have a job that allows me to travel all over the Carolinas. By being an Eastern NC boy, I enjoy all of the places east of I-95.

We are presently working in Beaufort, NC and have been eating at a small local place called Rowland's. They have good BBQ, slaw, and their seafood is great! The next time you are in the Beaufort area look them up. They are located at the split of Hwy 70 and 101.

We are also working in Grifton, NC which allows me the opportunity to travel through Goldsboro. Wilber's is also a good place to try.

If you are ever in Oak Island, NC try "The Bar B Que House. Good little joint.

In the Charlotte, NC area I have only found one place that has BBQ close to our stuff down east. It is Bubba's BBQ. These boys know how to do it right. Their hushpuppies are great. Yellow eastern NC slaw is also pretty good. But their green beans are like granny cooked them.

In Rocky Mount, NC I still like Garner's, It had been many years since I ate there, but for a buffet style BBQ joint it is still pretty good. Plus their Collard Greens are awesome.

My last entry for right now will be a place we worked about 3 years ago. It is Swansboro, NC. There is a little BBQ joint east of Swansboro on hwy 24. It is called "Bogue House Restaurant". I have had some folks tell me that they really don't care for it, but you have to try their BBQ & Scallop plate. It sounds crazy, but it really is good. I believe that it is worth a try.

I have enjoyed sharing a few of favorite BBQ joints over the last few years. I will try to update on new places I run across through my travels. Take care and have fun searching. Big Mike
